What cookies are and why we use them
Cookies are small text files that a website places on your computer, tablet or phone when you visit. They hold a short piece of information, such as a reference for your session or a setting you have chosen, and your browser sends that information back the next time you load a page. Similar technologies, including pixels, tags and local storage in your browser, work in much the same way, and this policy covers them all.
We use cookies for four broad reasons:
- To make the site work. Signing in, moving between pages without losing your session and keeping your balance accurate all depend on cookies.
- To keep accounts secure. Cookies help us spot unusual sign-in patterns and protect the pages where payment details are entered.
- To remember your choices, such as your preferred language, your display settings and whether you have already closed a notice.
- To understand how the site is used, so we can fix errors, speed up slow pages and organise games and menus more sensibly.
- To measure our advertising and, where you have agreed to it, shape the messages you see about us on other websites.
Some cookies are set by us. Others are set by the service providers we work with for payments, fraud prevention, live chat and measurement. Where a provider sets a cookie through our site, it may only be used for the purposes we have agreed with them, and we do not use cookies to read other files on your device.
Cookies and your personal data
Where the information held in a cookie can be linked to you, it is personal data, and we handle it as described in our Privacy Policy. This page deals with the cookies themselves and with the choices you have over them.
The types of cookies we use
We group the cookies on our site into four categories. Strictly necessary cookies are always on, because the site cannot be delivered safely without them. The other three categories are used only if you agree to them in the cookie notice.
Strictly necessary cookies
These keep the site running and keep your account safe. They cannot be switched off through our cookie notice, although your browser can still block them. Typical purposes include:
- Keeping you signed in as you move between the lobby, a game and the cashier.
- Spreading traffic across our servers so pages load and bets are recorded correctly.
- Supporting security, fraud prevention and the identity and age verification we are required to carry out as the holder of a gaming licence.
Performance and analytics cookies
These tell us how the site is performing, in totals rather than by name. We use them to:
- Count visits to a page and measure how long it takes to load.
- Record error messages so we can find and fix broken pages.
- See which route players take through the cashier, so we can simplify steps that cause people to stop part-way.
Functionality cookies
These remember the choices you have made, so you do not have to set them again each visit. For example:
- Storing your language, time zone and display preferences.
- Keeping a short list of the games you have opened recently.
- Noting that a deposit limit, time-out or other safer gambling tool is already in place, so the right information is shown on the relevant screens.
- Keeping live chat open as you move around the site.
Marketing cookies
These help us measure our advertising and, where you have agreed, show you messages about us on other sites and apps. They may be set by advertising and measurement partners through our pages. Typical purposes include:
- Recognising that you arrived from a particular advert, so the campaign is credited correctly.
- Limiting how often the same message is shown to you.
- Keeping you out of advertising where you have asked us not to market to you, or where a self-exclusion is in place.
| Category | Used by default | How long it is kept |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Yes, always on | Mostly for the length of your visit |
| Performance and analytics | Only with your consent | Your visit or longer, as listed in the cookie notice |
| Functionality | Only with your consent | Long enough for your settings to survive your next visit |
| Marketing | Only with your consent | As listed in the cookie notice |
How to manage your cookies
You can change your mind at any time. There are two places to do it: the cookie notice on our site and the settings in your browser or on your device.
In the cookie notice on our site
- On your first visit, the cookie notice asks whether you accept all cookies, keep only those that are strictly necessary, or choose category by category.
- You can open the cookie settings again from the footer of any page to look over the categories and the cookies in each one.
- Turn a category on or off and save. The change applies immediately to new cookies; those already stored may remain until they expire or you clear them in your browser.
- Your choice is itself stored in a cookie, so we can honour it next time. If you clear your cookies, or use a different browser or device, we will ask again.
In your browser or device settings
Every mainstream browser lets you see which cookies are stored, delete them and block new ones. The controls usually sit under a heading such as privacy, security or site settings. From there you can normally:
- Delete cookies already stored, for every site or for ours alone.
- Block all cookies, or only those set by companies other than the site you are visiting.
- Ask to be prompted each time a site wants to set a cookie.
- Clear cookies automatically when you close the browser, or use a private browsing window.
On a phone or tablet you can also limit ad tracking in the device settings, which reduces the advertising identifiers available to us and to our partners.
What happens if you block cookies
You can look at most of our public pages with cookies switched off, but the parts of the site that depend on knowing who you are will not work properly.
- You may be unable to sign in, or you may be signed out as soon as you move to another page.
- Deposits, withdrawals and game sessions may fail part-way through, because the cashier and the games cannot keep track of your session.
- Language, display preferences and closed notices will reset on every visit.
- We will not see the errors you run into, so faults may take longer to find and fix.
- Advertising you see elsewhere may be less relevant, and the same message may appear more often.
Strictly necessary cookies cannot be turned off here
If you block them in your browser, core parts of the site, including signing in and the cashier, will stop working. We are not able to offer a version of the site that runs without them.
Changes to this policy and how to reach us
We update this policy when the cookies on our site change, when we work with a different provider, or when the law or guidance that applies to us changes. The current version is always the one shown on this page, with the date it last changed given at the top.
If you have a question about cookies, want help changing your settings, or want to know what a particular cookie on our site does, contact us by e-mail at support@casinohippozino.co.uk or through the live chat on the site. For wider questions about how we handle personal data, including requests about your own data, write to privacy@casinohippozino.co.uk. It helps if you tell us your username and which browser or device you are using; we will never ask you for your password.
Our site is for adults aged 18 or over. The tools in your account let you set deposit limits, take a time-out or self-exclude, and the settings you choose are remembered with the help of the cookies described above. Free, confidential support is available from GambleAware, GamCare and the National Gambling Helpline, and GamStop allows you to block yourself from licensed online gambling sites in Great Britain through a single registration.
